Day 7 - A group of learners

Mark 3:13-19

Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him. He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach and to have authority to drive out demons. These are the twelve he appointed: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter), James son of Zebedee and his brother John (to them he gave the name Boanerges, which means “sons of thunder”), Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.

Carol Macdonald writes:

As a languages teacher, I was often involved in taking pupils to France. Having taught them everything they needed to know in the classroom, we would send them out in groups, armed with a shopping list and some money, to buy provisions for our picnic lunch. Mistakes happened, and we sometimes ended up with some very unexpected things to eat. This didn’t matter. They always learned and grew from the experience and had the thrill of discovering “Hey, this strange language actually works”.

This is what Jesus did with his disciples and what he does with us too. What has Jesus been teaching you that he wants you to go out and try to put into practice?
