King David (2 Samuel 1:1-2:4 and 1 Kings 2:1-3) - 11 October 2020
Here are some ideas that you could do with your children at home, that link the children’s everyday experiences to the Bible. As you play or create, you can talk about what happened in the story of King David.
You could watch this video of the story:
TEACHING POINT
Let’s be thankful!
PROGRAMME
Let’s Pretend
Kings and queens- you could put on a banquet, nice ‘pretend’ food, make crowns, build a castle, what would you do if you were a king or queen for the day?
Musical instruments
David loved to worship God. Make your own musical instruments, raid the recycling and see what you can make. Then sing songs, play music and make your own worship to God.
Craft
Make a wonderful crown and remind yourselves that you are God’s sons and daughters chosen by the King of all Kings.
Game
A take on pin the tail on the donkey- with pin the crown on King David.
MESSAGE AND PRAYER TIME
Let’s be thankful!
Up to 3 years old (Fruitshoots)
What do you want to thank God for? Thank you for… tell God what you are thankful for! It is great to thank God!
From 3 years to Reception age (Acorns)
What do you want to thank God for? Write a list of all that you are thankful for. You can add to it as you think of more things. Thank you for… tell God what you are thankful for! It is great to thank God!
School years 1-6 (Hive)
A thought: The Bible says to “enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise” (Psalm 100:4). Sometimes we find it difficult to talk to God but we can always start by thanking Him for anything and everything. Why don’t you put on your favourite worship song and then make a list of all the things that you are thankful for… you can continue to add to it as you think of more things!
Pray!
