Acts - The Lame Man - 3 May 2020
Here are some ideas that you could do with your children at home, that link the children’s everyday experiences to the Bible. As you play or create, you can talk about what happened when the lame man was healed by Jesus.
TEACHING POINT
Jesus heals!
PROGRAMME
Let’s Pretend
Doctors- bandages, plasters, any old medicine containers (empty, of course), boxes, dolls/teddies to make better, play stethoscope, empty calpol/nurofen sticks, blankets and cushions. You could even create a waiting area with magazines and chairs.
Book corner
Couple of beanbags in the corner – cosy up and read a story together, maybe you have one about poorly people, sickness or healing, otherwise you could look share a story about Jesus.
Construction
Can you build a temple out of bricks/ construction/ junk modeling (raid your recycling box)? Can you put a lame man in front of it and get two other play figures to act as Peter and John. Act out the story 😊
Messy - Syringe art
Water down (but not too much) some paint so it can be ‘sucked’ up by the syringe and then place paper in a tray. Children to fill their syringe and then squirt the syringe at the paper, creating a colourful creation!
Playdough
You can print this at home (if you have a printer-look up Jesus heals playdough mat). If you don’t have a printer- you could create freehand hearts and each heart you create, you could think of someone who is unwell and pray for them. Jesus heals! There’s power in prayer!
Game - Simon Says
Someone says ‘simon says’ and then an action… simon says jump up and down, simon says leap around the room, simon says wave your hands in the air etc. Everyone joins in with the actions until the person doesn’t say ‘Simon says’ and then everyone must not do the actions, for example, ‘touch your knees’. Do not do the actions if Simon has not said.
Game - Konga
Move around the room/house/garden praising God in different ways- leaping, clicking, clapping, jumping, zooming, wiggling, hopping.
Craft
Create some leaping and jumping people with concertina folded paper legs and arms.
STORY TIME
Find your Bible at home and read the story of Jesus returning together.
You could read this story from the Beginners Bible page 484-487 (or in your Bible Acts 3:1-10) sharing the book with your child.
The Lame Man
One day, Peter and John were going to the temple. They saw a man who could not walk. He had not been able to walk for the whole of his life. The man was begging for money.
Peter told him, “We have no silver or gold. But we will give you what we do have. In Jesus’ name, stand up and walk!”
Immediately, the man jumped up. His legs were strong! He began walking and leaping and praising God.
All the people who saw him were amazed. Peter told the people, “We did not make this man walk. Jesus did.” Many more people believed in Jesus that day.

School years 1-6 (Hive)
A question: If you could do an impossible thing what would be? Fly? Invisibility? Sometimes things look impossible from the outside but God knows and can do impossible things like healing, all we need is faith as small as a mustard seed. Talk about how Jesus heals… Is there anyone that we can pray for that needs healing? We can ask Jesus for good things. He loves to give us good things.
Pray together… Thank you that you are love and that you want good things for us. Thank you, Jesus, that there is power when we pray! Thank you that you have given us that power in the Holy Spirit. So we pray now for (say name of person who is unwell)_____ and we ask that you take away any pain and any sickness and instead give them health. In Jesus powerful name we pray, Amen
