Exodus 1-2:10 - Baby Moses - July 12 2020
Here are some ideas that you could do with your children at home, that link the children’s everyday experiences to the Bible. As you play or create, you can talk about what happened in the story of Moses as a baby.
TEACHING POINT
God has a plan and it is good.
PROGRAMME
Let’s Pretend
Set up a water play area (tub, stones, leaves etc) and explore which material makes the best ‘basket’ for baby Moses to lie in.
Messy
Make edible baby Moses baskets using chocolate and rice crispies/ shredded wheat/ cornflakes with jelly babies inside.
Moses acrostic
Write the word M-O-S-E-S down the left side of their paper. Use a different coloured crayon or marker for each letter and think of words that would talk about God's LOVE and PROTECTION for Moses or for us today.
Baby guessing game
Place as many baby items on a tray eg, dummy, bottle, baby food jar, spoon, blanket, clothing, towel, nappy, etc. Cover the tray. Then show the tray of items to the children for a few minutes and tell them to try and memorise as many of the items on the tray, and then cover the tray. The children can either write the names of the items (older children), or draw small pictures of all the items that they can remember on the tray or just list them verbally. Then give the children a red crayon or pencil to place an X over the top of all the ones that they see on the tray as you show them the tray again! See who remembered the most items.
Craft - make a baby Moses
Use a paper plate and colour it blue using paint/ collage/ colouring pens etc. Find a cupcake case and colour it green and then add your baby Moses. You could even add Miriam hiding in the bulrushes.
MESSAGE AND PRAYER TIME
When Moses mum put him in the water, she didn’t know how things would turn out. She was just trusting! God knew and she ended up being able to bring up Moses and live in a beautiful palace.
Up to 3 years old (Fruitshoots)
Thank you God that you take care of us! Thank you that when we feel worried or sad, you are with us and you are good.
From 3 years to Reception age (Acorns)
Thank you God that you take care of us! Thank you that no matter how we are feeling, sad, worried, tired, afraid, you are with us and the Bible says you will never leave us. Thank you that you have a plan for us that is good!
School years 1-6 (Hive)
A question: Have there been times that you have felt worried because something that you thought was going one way actually ended up going a completely different way. Just like Moses mum must have felt. But God tells us in the Bible, Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
God tells us that even when we are worried about something, He has a plan and we can trust him.
Pray!
