Jesus the child (Luke 2) - 10 January 2021
Here are some ideas that you could do with your children at home, that link the children’s everyday experiences to the Bible. As you play or create, you can talk about what happened in the story.
TEACHING POINT
Jesus knew who he was.
PROGRAMME
Let’s Pretend
Do you have any pretend builders play equipment that your children could pretend with? Pretend to be carpenters just like Jesus was. Maybe you have some real wood that you can add to the play.
Duplo maze
When you get lost, you need to find a way out… build your own duplo or lego maze to help your ball or marble escape 😊
Hammering
With your guardians and carers, have a go at hammering a nail into a piece of wood.
Or if you are a bit younger try hammering golf tees into playdough, cardboard box, an old piece of fruit or polystyrene.
Prayer
Write a Bible verse on the scroll for you to look at and memorise over the next few weeks. It could be your favourite verse, a verse that you think God is reminding you of or one that a friend or family member thinks is for you.
MESSAGE AND PRAYER TIME
Jesus knew who he was.
Up to 3 years old (Fruitshoots)
‘You are a child of God’ (John 1) Pray for children that will grow up knowing that they are a child of God and will have faith to move the mountains.
From 3 years to Reception age (Acorns)
‘You are a child of God’ (John 1) Pray for children that will grow up knowing that they are a child of God and will have faith to move the mountains. Remind them that Jesus knew who he was and that’s why he went to spend time with God in the temple. Get the children to draw a picture of themselves and write the verse ‘I am a child of God’ John 1 above it and stick it somewhere to remind themselves.
School years 1-6 (Hive)
A thought: What makes you, you? Maybe you think it is what you can do/achieve? Maybe it’s how kind/thoughtful/clever etc you are? Maybe its how you look?
Jesus knew even when he was a child that he was special and had a very special relationship with God who he also called his father (Dad). He also loved Mary and Joseph who were his parents.
Jesus knew lots about God and knew the Bible (scriptures) really well. The Bible was written on scrolls like we made today! The teachers in the temple were so impressed with what Jesus knew about God and his Bible!
You are a child of God too. You are so special and God has made you, you. Not anything you could do but just for being you (INSERT YOUR NAME HERE). The Bible tells us so many wonderful things about what God thinks of us. Open up your Bible and find some Bible verse about what God thinks of you and then write them on post it notes and remind yourself of these every day. You don’t have to do anything, you are special because of you.
Pray!
