Here are some ideas that you could do with your children at home, that link the children’s everyday experiences to the Bible. As you play or create, you can talk about what happened in the Easter story on Palm Sunday.
You could watch this video of the story:
TEACHING POINT
Let’s praise Jesus!
PROGRAMME
Craft
Make your own Palm Sunday branches using your hand prints.
Let’s Pretend
Once you’ve made your palm branches, you could find your Bible and read the story of Palm Sunday. Act it out at home, put some music on, dance, clap, cheer, wave your palm branches, lay your clothes on the floor and praise Jesus for all He has and is doing in our lives.
Games
Grab a blindfold and play a game of pin the tail on the donkey.
Or you could play stepping stones with homemade palm leaves…
Start at one end of the room and using two palm leaves, can you make your way to the opposite side of the room… how many steps does it take you to get there? What if you try bigger leaps, can you get there faster?
MESSAGE AND PRAYER
What would you do if you saw someone famous in the street? The Queen perhaps?
Everyone is praising Jesus because they know He is special. They wave palm leaves, put their clothes on the floor in front of him and shout, cheer and call him king. They know that Jesus has come to do something special but they don’t know what yet.
Isn’t it funny how Jesus chose to ride on a donkey too… he doesn’t choose a beautiful white horse or a chariot, he chooses a donkey because that’s who our Jesus is; Humble, kind. He doesn’t put himself on a pedestal, he’d rather put you on one. He doesn’t need anything from us, Jesus just wants you to know that you are so loved and that’s why we can give him all our praise. We are loved and we can give Him love.
