Here are some ideas that you could do with your children at home, that link the children’s everyday experiences to the Bible. As you play or create, you can talk about what happened in the Easter story as Jesus washes the feet of the disciples.

Let’s Pretend

Shoes- have a pile of shoes for the children to sort and match. They could match the pairs, try tying laces, Velcro, buttons, straps.

Make flour footprints-

Place flour (baking soda, etc.) onto a plate.
Spray the bottom of a shoe with water.
Press into flour until the whole shoe is covered.
Press onto floor.
Repeat with other shoe and make as many footprints as you wish

How about making some footprints using water… do your footprints look different to the other peoples in your family?

Soap making

New Soap!

Materials needed: many bars of different colored soap; bowls, cheese graters, warm water, metal forks or spoons

Help the children use the cheese graters to grate some soap, placing their grated soap into a bowl. (keep all the scrapings sorted by color)

Give each child a bowl and let them scoop some of the colors they want into their bowl.

The children add warm water to their bowl to moisten (not drown!) their shavings.

They use their hands to mix the shavings and water together to make almost a playdough consistency.

VARIATION: Use white soap to grate. Add warm water and a drop of food coloring. Let harden after mixed. Use as colored crayons!

Craft

Colour in this memory verse and as you do think about how you could love people this week. What acts of love could you do for your family, the people in your house, your friends at school?

You could print this foot out and colour in a different part of the foot each day when you have completed an act of love just like Jesus did.

MESSAGE AND PRAYER

Jesus washed his disciples’ feet. In Jesus’ time everyone would have been wearing sandals, so the disciples’ feet would have been dusty, dirty and smelly. Usually, the disciples would have washed Jesus’ feet as he was their teacher but this was Jesus’ special act of love for them. He wanted to show how much he loved them by washing their feet. It was a great act of love!!

So, our challenge this week is to share the love… what acts of love can you do to show love to others? Can you fill the foot above with acts of love? Maybe you could wash up for your parents, tidy the living room, write someone a cheery and encouraging card, write a thank you card for your teacher, buy the local postman a bar of chocolate. We’d love to hear what you got up to!
