Genesis 2 and 3 - Adam and Eve - 31 May 2020
Here are some ideas that you could do with your children at home, that link the children’s everyday experiences to the Bible. As you play or create, you can talk about what happened in the story of Adam and Eve.
TEACHING POINT
We are fearfully and wonderfully made!
PROGRAMME
Let’s Pretend
Create your own zoo or farm at home…
Book corner
Couple of beanbags in the corner – cosy up and read a story together.
Construction
What animals or plants can you create out of construction…
Messy
Get messy with fruit printing… maybe you have some fruit or veg that needs to be used up… get creative and see which different fruit and veg makes which pattern.
Playdough
Make people out of playdough. You could use a gingerbread man cutter and use your playdough creation station from last week to create people (buttons, beads, straws, lollisticks, googly eyes, dry food eg pasta). Or perhaps you have a Mr potato head, if you do, put the body parts that come with Mr potato head onto some playdough and have fun creating some playdough people.
Music time
Listen to this song based on the Bible verse from 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation.” We are God’s creation too!
Game - Apple bobbing
Fill a tub or a large basin with water and putting apples in the water. Because apples are less dense than water, they will float at the surface. Then try to catch one with your teeth. (Use of arms is not allowed)
Game - Snakes and Ladders
Craft - Threading pasta snakes
Paint some dry pasta. When it’s dry, thread it on some string, stick on a paper/card/foam face and some eyes
Craft - Rainbow snakes
Use a paper plate, cut a spiral out and finger paint to create a rainbow snake, hang it up and watch it bounce.
STORY TIME
Find your Bible at home and read the story of Adam and Eve.
You could read this story from the Beginners Bible page 14-25 (or in your Bible, Genesis 2 and 3) sharing the book together.
Adam and Eve
God had planted a beautiful garden for Adam called Eden. A river flowed through the garden.
Adam loved his new home. His job was to name all the animals and care for the garden. Adam loved all the animals, but he could not find a friend that was just right for him. So God created a woman.
Adam named her Eve. She was just right for Adam. Adam and Eve loved each other. Together they took care of God’s garden.
Many trees grew in the Garden of Eden. God told Adam and Eve, “You may eat the fruit from any tree except for one. Never eat the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.”
Now, there was a sneaky snake in the garden. One day, the snake saw Eve near the special tree. It hissed, “Did God really tell you not to eat the fruit from this tree?”
The snake wanted Eve to disobey God. It said, “You should try some of this tasty fruit. If you eat it, you will be like God. You will be able to tell the difference between good and evil.”
The fruit looked tasty. Eve remembered what God had said, but she ate the fruit anyway. Then Eve gave some to Adam. He took a bite, too.
As the sun was going down, Adam and Eve heard God walking through the garden. He was looking for them. Adam and Eve hid among the trees. They were afraid.
“What have you done?” God asked. “Did you eat the fruit from the forbidden tree?” Adam said, “Yes, but Eve gave it to me.” Eve said, “Yes, but the snake tricked me.”
God told the snake, “Because of what you did, you will always crawl on your belly.” Then he told Adam and Eve, “Because you disobeyed me, you can no longer live in the garden.”
Adam and Eve left the garden. God placed angels and a flaming sword to guard the entrance. Adam and Eve would not be allowed into the garden again.
MESSAGE AND PRAYER TIME
Up to 3 years old (Fruitshoots)
Thank you God, that you made us and that we are all different. Look at your fingerprint and look at someone else’s fingerprint in your house. Not one person has the same fingerprint! The Bible tells us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made by God, He even knows how many hairs are on our heads and He loves us so much.
From 3 years to Reception age (Acorns)
Thank you God, that you made us and that we are all different. Look at your fingerprint and look at someone else’s fingerprint in your house. Not one person has the same fingerprint! The Bible tells us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made by God, He even knows how many hairs are on our heads, just like He know how many stars are in the sky and how many grains of sand there are. The God that created the world loves us so much and wants to be your friend.
School years 1-6 (Hive)
A question: The Bible tells us that Adam and Eve were walking with God in the garden. Where do you think God is? Where have you met with God/Holy Spirit/ Jesus before? God is everywhere, all the time. The same God that is at church or here with us now, whatever day of the week it is, He is with us everywhere we go and he wants to be our friend, wants to walk with us and talk with us every day.
Pray together… Thank you, God, that you made us and that we are all different. The God that created the world loves us so much and wants to be in relationship with us and sent Jesus so we can be in relationship with Him. If you want to be friends with Jesus, talk to him and ask him and then tell a grownup who loves Jesus too so they can pray with you too.
