Here are some ideas that you could do with your children at home, that link the children’s everyday experiences to the Bible. As you play or create, you can talk about what happened in the story of the healing of the beggar.
You could watch this video of the story:
TEACHING POINT
We can thank and praise Jesus for all we have!
PROGRAMME
Game
The Bible says that the lame man entered the temple court walking, jumping, and praising God. Get some colourful paint and have a go at walking, jumping and praising God in the colours. How does it make you feel? What does it look like when you have finished?
Thankful jar
Start a thankful jar… write one thing each day that you are thankful for and put it in the jar. When the jar is full, go back and read all the things that you have been thankful for and remember how much there is to thank God for!
Craft
Make some people who can walk, jump and praise God, using concertina paper or card for their legs and arms.
MESSAGE AND PRAYER
What’s the best present you’ve ever received? Was it what you were expecting? How did you react? Did you say thank you?
For this man, he thought Peter was going to give him money but actually Peter did something better, he prayed for him and the man was healed and found out about Jesus too! And the first thing he did was thank Jesus in the temple! Sometimes we can forget to say thank you. What shall we say thank you for today?
Extra thought:
The beggar was healed because of his faith, nothing that he did, it was his faith that healed him.
We have a powerful God! What do you need God’s power to help you to do this week? (obey parents/teachers, tell others about Jesus, pray for someone who is unwell, ask God to speak to you about something that has happened)
Often when we pray we end our prayers by saying “In the name of Jesus, amen”. This is because we believe that Jesus has power to hear and answer our prayers. What are you going to pray powerfully for this week?
Pray for your week together!
